'World Heritage Festival Suwon Hwaseong' Exploring the objects in the poster #2

This poster is a poster of <World Heritage Festival Suwon Hwaseong>. It was made under the theme of "Suwon Hwaseong Fortress and its Records."

In the last post, among the objects in the poster expressed with embroidery techniques, we first introduced the pattern drawn from <Hwaseong Seongyeok Uigwe>In this post, we are going to take a look at the objects in <Wonhaeng Eulmyojeongri Uigwe>.

The source of the poster objects.

<Wonhaeng Eulmyojeongri Uigwe> is a document that records the sixtieth birthday of *Crown Princess Hong in 1797. It is said that the event was held on an unprecedented scale. And while commemorating Princesses birthday, it was also a banquet to show the strength of the royal power of Jeongjo, who celebrated the 20th anniversary of his reign.

The paintings in this Uigwe are based on sophisticated engraving techniques, in the painting style of Kim Hong-do, who led the government office and drew pictures of Joseon Dynasty that were needed by the nation. It is a material of great cultural and historical value as it provides a glimpse into the art and culture of the royal court of those times, through detailed and diverse paintings.

*Crown Princess Hong is King Jeongjo’s mother.

<Wonhaeng Eulmyojeongri Uigwe> is also called <Jeongri Uigwe>, because it was prepared by installing a temporary organization called Jeongriso.

For reference, the Korean version of 'Dyeongni Uigwe (Jeongri Uigwe)', which is a separate document from Wonhaeng Eulmyojeongri Uigwe, is a book written in chronological order by combining the contents of Jeongjo's visit to Hyeonryungwon, Hwaseongseong Station, and Crown Princesse Hong's journey and birthday party. The drawings (pictures) are presented in colored versions, and are a valuable material for studying the original shape of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress.

Considering the fact, that a temporary organization was organized and prepared, it means a separate Task Force team

was created for this record. That shows how much attention King Jeongjo paid to his journey in the year of Eulmyo. In

fact, it is said that the scene of the visit to Hwaseong was made by King Jeongjo into a separate tombstone screen

<Neunghaengdo Screen>, stored in the palace, and bestowed upon his hard-working servants.

'The Year of Eulmyo' made a big mark in the history of Suwon and we will find out which of the pictures of <Wonhaeng Eulmyojeongri Uigwe>, are included in the poster of the <World Heritage Festival Suwon Hwaseong>.

It is a flower decoration where 'Danghwajun (Flower Jar)' is placed on a large vase, a handful of white rice is put inside the jar, and then a flower arrangement made of thin and delicate silk is inserted. The 'Junhwa' used for <Jin Chan-yeon>, royal event for Crown Princess Hong is a form of intricately intertwined flowers and birds in a large jar. The story of Uigwe in the poster. How was it?

<Hwaseong Seongyeok Uigwe> and <Wonhaeng Eulmyojeongri Uigwe> are valuable records made while breathing together with the time of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, during the construction of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress and Eulmyo’s events and banquets.

What kind of records will be left behind while living with Suwon Hwaseong Fortress?
