Hwajungjibyeong - Rice cakes in a painting

The “Hwajungjibyeong” program available at the Suwon Center for Traditional Culture invites visitors to enjoy traditional Korean snacks, particularly a type of rice cake called Baekseolgi. Using Baekseolgi as a foundation, visitors can try their hand in turning local flowers, including chrysanthemums, camellias, plum blossoms, hydrangeas, and trigonitis, that appear frequently in Korean traditional Minhwa paintings (folk paintings) into Jeolpyeon rice cakes. Visitors learn not only how to make rice cakes using different techniques, but also which ingredients are useful as food colorings (gardenia seeds, cactus fruit, radish, sweet pumpkin, etc.). Please note that this program is available in Korean only.

‘Suwon Hwaseong Haenggung Temporary Palace’ used as a filming site for “The Crowned Clown” a Monday and Tuesday night Korean drama series on tvN

Hit tvN drama series “The Crowned Clown” recently ended with great fanfare. As a remake of the movie “Masquerade,” which premiered in 2012, “The Crowned Clown” was a highly anticipated series by fans even before it aired on TV thanks to a star-laden cast featuring Yeo Jin-gu, Lee Se-young, and Kim Sang-kyung.
“The Crowned Clown,” which aired every Monday and Tuesday night, told the story of a King who brought “Haseon (played by Yeo Jin-gu),” a body-double who resembled the King more than an identical twin, into his palace to protect himself against enemies looking to end his life.
Of particular importance for Suwon was episode no. 6 on January 22 (Tue) - specifically the scene where Shin Chi-soo (played by Kwon Hae-hyo) and his son were humiliated. The Bongsudang Hall at Suwon Hwaseong Haenggung Temporary Palace was used as a filming site for that particular scene.

Suwon Hwaseong Fortress included in the ‘100 Must-visit Tourist Spots of Korea’ by the Korea Tourism Organization for the 4th consecutive time

Suwon Hwaseong Fortress was included in the “100 Must-visit Tourist Spots of Korea for 2019~2020” compiled by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Korea Tourism Organization.
“100 Must-visit Tourist Spots of Korea” is a promotional initiative for domestic and international tourists. The list, featuring the top-100 destinations recommended for Koreans, is compiled every two years. The 2019-2020 edition is the 4th edition since 2013.
Listed in the inaugural list of “100 Must-visit Tourist Spots of Korea” in 2013, Suwon Hwaseong Fortress was honored with its 4th consecutive selection this year.
Previously, Suwon Hwaseong Fortress was also listed as one of the top destinations in the “K-Tour Best 10” program. It is one of Korea’s landmark tourist attractions and a beloved destination among not only domestic tourists, but also international travelers.
