Open Call for International Performing Artists of Suwon Theatre Festival 2016




Suwon Theatre Festival is ready to celebrate its 20th anniversary and call for the international performing artists for the 2016 festival.
Suwon Theatre Festival was founded in 1996 in order to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the construction of the Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, which is UNESCO’s world heritage site, and it is  organized by the Suwon Cultural Foundation and hosted by Suwon city of Korea.







Next year’s festival will be held from 5th to 8th May in the big event of ‘2016 Visit Suwon Hwaseong Year’ and through this open call, we will select fresh and excellent performances.
We hope that more artists who have passionate mind and infinite potential will participate in this open call and challenge their creativity.

‘Dwiju’ (grain chest) from Hwaseong Temporary Palace(Hwaseong Haenggung) – location where movie ‘Sado’ was filmed – on display at movie theaters!






Movie ‘Sado’ (Diretor Lee Joon-ik) tells the tragic family history of King Yeongjo (Song Kang-ho) and Crown Prince Sado (Yu Ah-in) from the Joseon Dynasty.
Sado reaches deep into the hearts of its audience with breathtaking performances and chemistry between actor Song Kang-ho, also known as the ‘ten million actor’ for his box office appeal capable of selling more than ten million tickets, and rising star Yu Ah-in.






Suwon Cultural Foundation hosts a joint promotion with CGV in time for the box office premiere of ‘Sado’.
The ‘Dwiju’ (grain chest) owned by Hwaseong Haenggung Temporary Palace has been set on display inside CGV’s Sangam theater and Guro theater in Seoul to introduce Suwon Hwaseong Fortress and Hwaseong Haenggung Temporary Palace, which is where the movie was filmed, and to promote the 52nd Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival.







Viewers raved about ‘Sado’ with reviews such as, “Although I knew how the story was going to end, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. It’s a movie that keeps your attention right to the end”, “A movie that compels you to focus on every breath of the actors and their emotions.”

The 52nd Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival Schedule - Main Program






The largest festival in Korea for traditional cultural tourism gets under way in Suwon every autumn! The ‘Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival’ is back!
Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival celebrates the 52nd annual event this year since hosting its inaugural event in 1964. This year’s Festival is scheduled for 4 days between October 8 and 11, 2015.
The Festival will feature reenactments of traditional events such as the royal procession of King Jeongjo the Great to his father’s tomb, the highlight of the Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival, and Crown Princess Hong’s ‘Jinchanyeon’ (60th birthday celebration) as well as a night time martial arts performance using Suwon Hwaseong Fortress as a backdrop and the Banghwasuryujeong Moonlight Music Concert.
In particular, this year’s Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival has plenty of programs where guests can participate. The Festival will also have a food culture festival where guests can taste traditional cuisine from countries such as Korea, China, and Japan.
This October, get ready for a 4-day trip to World Heritage Site Suwon Hwaseong Fortress and meet King Jeongjo the Great in the Joseon Dynasty!
