The <Exploration Life of Uigwe> series, which tell the story of ‘Hwaseong Seongyeok Uigwe’ and ‘Wonhaeng Eulmyojeongri Uigwe’, the documentary heritage of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, has been released on YouTube.

In <Exploration Life of Uigwe>, two historians and three panelists follow the places inside the Uigwe and unravel the story that it contains.

A full story tour about <Hwaseong Seongyeok Uigwe> is done with teacher Kim Chan-Soo (Dongwon High School history teacher), and a vivid field tour of <Wonhaeng Eulmyojeongri Uigwe> is accompanied by Professor Gong Gi Taek (history lecturer at Inha University).

In addition to that, comedian Seunghee Jo, broadcaster Eunhyang Eom, and Dongwon High School student Jaehoon Lim are also waiting to explore Uigwe with you.

In this post, we’ll briefly introduce three stories about the ‘Hwaseong Seongyeok Uigwe’.

Exploration Life of Uigwe: First Story

________________________________________________

In the first session of <Exploration Life of Uigwe>, we’ll visit an exhibition related to Uigwe and talk about the Uigwe at Hwaseong Fortress.

The mentioned exhibition is called ‘The Great Records and Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, Theme Exhibition for the 2021 World Heritage Festival’, and was held at the Suwon Hwaseong Museum. (Exhibition Period: September 09, 2021 – October 31, 2021).
Watch the video and take some time to learn about ‘Hwaseong Seongyeok Uigwe’ in an easy and fun way.

Exploration Life of Uigwe: Second Story

___________________________________________

In the second session, we’ll talk about ‘Treasure No. 403 Hwaseomun Gate and Treasure No. 1710 Seobuk Gongshimdon Area’.

We will find out why 'Hwaseomun Gate' and Seobuk Gongshimdon' were designated as treasures among the four treasures in Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, and tell the behind story of the construction of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress.

You can also enjoy the charming scenery of Hwaseomun Fortress.

Exploration Life of Uigwe: Third Story

In the third session, we will cover the world heritage of irrigation facilities, 'Suwon Chukmanje (West Lake)'.

Did you know that Seoho Reservoir, a place where many north Suwon citizens enjoy a walk, is a world heritage site? 'Suwon Chukmanje (West Lake) is Gyeonggi-do Monument No. 200 and a heritage of world value that was registered as the world's irrigation facility by the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) for the first time in Korea.

In 1831, 'Park Ki-Soo', who was a high-ranking officer in Hwaseong at the time, built the pavilion, and since then it has been a resting place for citizens visiting Seoho Reservoir.

The picture above shows the Hangmijeong Pavillion during the Japanese colonial period.

Let's take a look together at the King Jeongjo’s love for the people and its historical value contained in the 'Chukmanje', an artificial reservoir created in the Joseon Dynasty, through the third session of the “Exploration Life of Uigwe”.

So far, I have briefly introduced three videos that will tell the story of <Hwaseong Seongyeok Uigwe>.

Without <Hwaseong Seongyeok Uigwe>, we would not have been able to meet Suwon Hwaseong Fortress of today.

Today’s ‘Suwon Hwaseong Fortress’ is a legacy of a great archival culture and evidence of historical and cultural excellence.

How about taking some time to learn more about the historical and cultural value of Hwaseong Fortress while watching the <Exploration Life of Uigwe> series?

We invite you to the <Exploration Life of Uigwe>, an online story of Uigwe.
